CAPS (Common Access for Presence Services) is a gateway based-software which enables 3rd party applications to standardize the management and the sharing of presence information across multiple services and networks.

The goal is to deliver an easy way for "Getting", "Maintaining" and "Publishing" presence information of any object such as Computer, Telephone, Skype client and any other device or equipment. It provides also a mechanism for privacy management allowing users to control their private information.

CAPS defines a set of universal specification of any existing or future presence services. The specifications concern the exchange of messages and presence information between objects and any other Internet-based services.

CAPS employs distributed server architecture using a federated; client-server technology. A CAPS Gateway acts as an intermediary common hub for "receiving", "keeping" and "broadcasting" Presence information delivered or requested by CAPS clients. CAPS clients are either "providers" of objects' presence or "subscribers" to be notified of the presence of monitored objects.

CAPS technology provides also a CAPS Publisher mechanism capable to distribute and route in real-time any presence information between different CAPS gateways and different subscribers located in different domains.

Corebridge "CAPSWrapper Presence layer" enables 3rd Party applications to access to CAPS gateway resources. Through CAPSWrapper layer, applications can communicate with CAPS Gateway and are notified in real time of presence information of monitored objects.
